Utilizing the world's first, automotive drive-by-wire technology developed for Firebird III, GM explored introducing that break through system on passenger cars. This '58 Chevy Impala was equipped with the joystick control system, but added a backup foot pedal which was not used on Firebird III. The drive-by-wire system proved so difficult for most drivers to master that GM soon dropped the concept for passenger cars.
